July 2006

Jonathan hasn’t been feeling too well all week. He’s been running a bit of a temperature, tired and generall not quite himself.

Yesterday, I tried to feed him some supper and he didn’t want anything except a bit of juice. He didn’t even want a cookie, and usually he’ll take a cookie no questions asked. So I figured he just wasn’t hungry. He had just had a good snack and hour before at his Oma’s (Grandma for those like me who don’t speak German).

So off we went to pick up Mommy from work. On the way home, we hear a bit of a gurgle followed by a GUSH. Lisa looks back, “He’s throwing up.” I glance back to see him on his second gush. Fortunately, we were on a side street and did a quick pull-over as he finished his third gush.

Both of us hop out of the car and dig into the trunk for a towel. Lisa heads to his side and I lean in through the opposite side only to be hit by a wave of puke smell. I can’t stand the smell of puke. I can look at it, but the smell causes me to start heaving. Dry heaves are one thing, but I had just finished eating myself. It didn’t help that my shirt was too low cut to pull up over my nose.

Lisa hauls him out of his seat and brings him over to me on the grass where I’m trying not to breathe. He’s covered in puke and she tells me to strip him down. All I can manage between heaves is to strip his shirt off and stand there holding him up on his feet while I try to keep my meal down. Lisa’s laughing at me while she’s cleaning up the seat enough that we can strap him back in and then get it all home to clean up.

The meal did stay down, but after all the cleaning, our car has a faint smell of puke. It’s a cool day out today, but I’m already wondering if the heat is going to bake that smell right in.

And now if you’re sitting there about to comment that this is just the beginning, you can put your typing fingers away. I’m already aware of that. I think I might have to invest in one of those little breathing masks and leave it in the car. As long as I don’t have to smell it, I’m okay.

The sense of smell is a wonderful thing… until someone pukes.

Yup, it’s definitely been warm here in Winterpeg.  Winter’s been long forgotten as we deal with high heat, high humidity at times and bone dry conditions.  We are so far under the norm for rainfall that the tumbleweeds are complaining.  Gotta love living in a place where the extreme temperature range is around 80 degrees.  From -40C to +40C.

So last Saturday we had a bit of excitement when one of our tenant’s apartments was broken into.  A neighbour reported it to us at 5:40AM.  When I went to check on the building, I thought it was going to be a break-in to the laundry room.  I was surprised to find that it was a tenant’s apartment and they were still in the apartment!  The tenant wasn’t home and the perp had passed out on the bed!  The police took a bit long to respond, but when they did it was an easy arrest.  The kicker was that we weren’t sure of the gender of the person.  Had a pair of female body parts but identified himself as ‘William’.

At least I had taken pictures of him or her when they were passed out.
The arresting officer was glad that I had, makes the court case easier.
Unfortunately, I can’t post the pictures as it’s evidence.

All for now.  Gotta run.

And I’m not sure why the alignment is weird on this post… fix it later.

Can you say it’s been awhile since the last update?  It’s been a very busy past couple of months.  Between the ‘Amazing Car Rally’ an Amazing Race style fundraiser for Special Olympics that I was chairman of the comitte for, plus a whole myriad of other things going on, it’s safe to say we didn’t have much time  So now I’m catching up on a whole list of things to do, including website updates, some computer repairs, photo editing etc etc etc.

To continue from the last post about the Oilers… darn.  Congratulations go out to Italy today for winning the World Cup of Soccer.  One question, what was Zidale thinking with that headbutt??  Might not have changed the outcome had he stayed in the match, but still.

Going to wrap this up.  Be sure to check in on the two new gallery updates.  Photos from April, May and June, including Jonathan’s birthday party.  Also his one year photos are in there.

Blessings.
